New Directions Sober Living Opens a Women’s Sober Living Home [Press Release]

Addiction Recovery Nonprofit Gives Women a Place to Go and Helps Fill Treatment Gap

Crystal Lake, IL: On December 9 th , New Directions Sober Living, a nonprofit that operates structured housing for people recovering from addictions, will open a sober home for women. They already host 12 men in a sober living house, and this new facility will provide 5 women the same services. The women’s home, located at 171 Lincoln Parkway, was built in 1901, purchased with a donation from the Foglia Family Foundation, and remodeled over the course of a year. Residents will enjoy a structured living environment and access to counseling, career services, and more.

Of the new home, New Directions Sober Living’s president, Chris Reed, said, “There’s an overwhelming need for housing in the recovery community. This is one of the most important parts of the recovery process. Unfortunately, there are only a couple of structured sober living environments in McHenry County, and the waitlists are usually full.”

New Directions Sober Living is part of a broader effort to support people in recovery:

  • The organization is an affiliate of New Directions Addiction Recovery Services (NDARS), alongside The Other Side (a sober bar) and Connect to Recovery (a recovery support hotline).
  • Local businesses that contributed to the women’s home include Jett’s Heating & Air, Gator Plumbing & Irrigation, Exceed Floor & Home, Old World Stone, Heartland Home Cabinetry, ABC Supply, Consolidated Electrical Distributors, and International Painting and Drywall.

Women seeking to apply for housing at the sober home should fill out an intake form on the New Directions Sober Living website.
